Neo-Gothic Library

I designed and built this German castle library environment that has a 19th century neo-gothic style. For this project, I focused on creating heavily detailed models and textures.

References

I used the interiors of these German and Romanian castles for inspiration. These castles were all either built or re-designed in the 19th century.

Concept

This is my concept drawing of the environment. The Neo-Gothic style is very organic, and I incorporated it into the design using references from the castles above.

Modeling

Texturing

I hand-painted some of the textures in Procreate, including the map, duchess portrait, and rug design, and textured most of the other assets in Substance Painter. I also made a customizable wood grain material in Substance Designer that I incorporated into a lot of the textures.

I also wrote a short mel script to randomly assign the book materials to the books, pictured below.

Final Renders

Here are some still renders of the final environment, which were rendered in Renderman and composited using Nuke.
