Shogun Teaser

I spent a year working on this Shogun teaser, which was from start to finish on the CG side. In the early stages of the project, I did a lot of asset work. I modeled a few props including the swords, bow, and arrows for the samurai, and I did texturing/lookdev for the ship, weapons, flags, and battlefield environment. I also did the layout for the forest environments and the battlefield environment.

I did the lighting and rendering for the non-fx CG elements for several shots, including the ship, the rocks with the samurai, the forest transitions, the armor stand, and the battlefield shot.

I used Maya and Arnold for the lighting and rendering.

The battlefield shot was my largest contribution to the project. I did the layout and lookdev for the environment, which is almost fully CG with the exception of the matte painting landscape behind the rocks. I also did the layout for the fighting mocap samurai in the foreground, which I placed and retimed to show dramatic actions that work well with the camera move. I did the lighting and rendering for the crowds, the fighting samurai, and the environment in this shot.
